The National Association of Safety Professionals is a non-profit organization founded by Thomas and Jennifer Hardin to provide third-party certifications that validate knowledge, skills and abilities in the area of workplace safety. The National Association of Safety Professionals was created by the non-profit International Association of Safety Professionals, which is approved by the United Nations as a NGO in Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council and is working to improve workplace safety world wide.

In accordance with the NASP's eight principles of a safe workplace and safety philosophy, the primary objectives of the National Association of Safety Professionals are:

* To build upon the safety experience in the field and to teach innovative ways of adult learning techniques, ensuring that employees and students understand and retain more of the critical information necessary to prevent accidents and save lives.
* To provide support for safety professionals through access to quality resident training courses, access to quality independent study courses and access to quality and affordable training, planning and assessment materials.

The mission of the National Association of Safety Professionals is to provide safety professionals, many of who have other professional responsibilities and may not have a college degree in the field of safety, with innovative training opportunities and certification to assist them in carrying out their safety related functions with confidence while assuring a high level of competence.

NASP certifications are accepted in 42 countries world wide and by the US federal government, state and local governments and major industries.
